![]() One Above You
(Gossard, James) 2009 fall introduction
(Heavenly Shootring Stars x Reach For The Heavens)
TET 74" MidLate season Dormant emo Very fragrant 6" 6 way branching 30 buds. Fertile both ways.
One Above You is my tallest daylily introduced to date. There are few people on this planet which the name would not apply. The tallest daylily I have ever seen, except for a few of it's children. Flowers are golden yellow, a very intense color. Flower size is 6 inches which is perfect for such high scapes. I have seen 8 way branching and 45 bud count, but registered with 6 way branching and 30 bud count, which is more of an average. In full clump strength main scapes are very straight, however outside fans can lean. This happens because outside fans are not as big and established. As a seedling , scapes were straight with no leaning. We have very high winds across are property due to lack of trees and windy weather conditions. Such makes for a super testing of the tall daylilies. I believe with good growing conditions, flowers may be 8 feet or taller. While traveling to Nova Scotia, Canada where I spoke to the NOVA SCOTIA DAYLILY SOCIETY, I saw the parents 1 foot taller than I registered them. Reach For the Heavens was almost 7 feet tall with 8 .5 inch flowers. Boy, would love to see One Above You in their gardens, I know it would be 8 foot there. They are zone 5. My introductions seem to do extremely well throughout Canada.
One Above You is an outstanding garden cultivars, with great curbside appeal. It is a super daylily when planted in and around the tall grasses. Also great in front or behind fences. We highly recommend planting, some of the following next to ONE ABOVE YOU; REACH FOR THE HEAVENS, HEAVENLY UNITED WE STAND, RED SALLY, SKY DRAGON and or SKY KING. Did I also tell you about the very long bloom season, blooms into September here in my zone 5 garden. This is an important trait do to the lack of color in late August. And I am not talking about rebloom. Could bloom longer maybe if I could keep the birds from perching on ONE ABOVE YOU. They tend to stop the bud building. As you can see in the back ground, is the barn , where Ryan keeps his steers and pigs. The birds come in to nest and eat the spilled grain, sometimes I see 25 birds perched on One Above You. I dought you will have this problem, but can tell you scapes hold up to birds perched on them. When have you ever heard that in a daylily description. If you want the bragging rights for having the tallest daylily in your garden or state, ONE ABOVE YOU is the one........$100
